Finally: American beer is not shit!

illiterate monk's picture

I am thrilled:

InBev buys Anheuser-Busch

I can now say with confidence: American-owned and produced beer is now quite good. All of the macro-brews are now foreign owned firms--Bud is Belgian (to be fair, InBev does also produce some fantastic beer), Coors is Canadian, and Miller is South African. Result? Here are the largest American-owned breweries (based on 2007 volume per 2008/04/07 Brewer's Association report (pdf)):

  1. Pabst
  2. Boston Beer (Samuel Adams)
  3. Yuengling
  4. Sierra Nevada
  5. New Belgium

Not bad. If you ignore Pabst (which, albeit awful, does at least have a decent American pedigree), that's a fantastic list. I can't wait to share a Samuel Adams with all the right-wing redneck jackasses that give me shit for not drinking Bud Light.

Cinematic Adventures: Wanted

mholtman's picture

Jennifer and I went to see Wanted yesterday. The draw of Angelina and James MacAvoy was too hard to ignore. I'm sorry to report that this movie, in no way, lived up to its hype. I was pretty disappointed coming out of this movie. Don't get me wrong: some of the action scenes were excellently rendered. that's about the extent of the positive, though. The dialogue was lackluster, the character development was 'meh'. They even had a montage-training scene in the middle that nearly made me throw up in my mouth it was so cliched.

My advice: wait til video.

Bungie Day '08: A Halo 3 map free on Monday July 7.

thepeak's picture

Remember guys, this stuff is free for Monday only! Maybe someone can recover Aaron's account and grab the freebies.

IGN wrote:
July 3, 2008 - In keeping with its tradition of offering free goodies to fans on July 7, Bungie is planning to release a bundle of Halo 3 freebies on Monday, including a new downloadable multiplayer map.

Cold Storage is a new take on the multiplayer map Chill Out from Halo: Combat Evolved. Once a functional research facility on Installation 05, a contamination outbreak has left it abandoned and empty…mostly.

Christmas in July.

Along with Cold Storage, Halo 3 fans will be able to download new gamer pics and a Bungie Day Xbox 360 dashboard theme for free. The Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack will also drop to 600 MS points. The free downloads and Legendary discount are only good for the day of 7/7.

Photosynth demo

This is an awesome demo of a future Microsoft(!) offering. The ending bit, with the recreation of the Notre Dame cathedral is astounding.

Left 4 Dead shambles towards November 4th

Valve and Turtle Rock have announced a November 4th release date for Left 4 Dead, their zombie survival-horror shooter. Sure to be a magnum opus.

So, Mark, how about that bulk, direct-from-Valve discount?

Video-splosion: A bunch of cool video game clips

This selection features the Spectacular Spider-Man, LotR, and Battlefield: Bad Company.

New Lord of the Rings Conquest footage holds some promise. It's absolutely a Star Wars: BattleFront type of game.

Yes, we were this close to pearl jam! We waited in line for 10 hrs to be in the front row, and by god we were there! It was the best musical experience of my life!

Double XP Weekend for CoD4

thepeak's picture

Attention Andy and Wes, this weekend will give you a great opportunity to boost your levels a bit faster. Joystiq reports that the double XP for all gametypes is Infinity Ward's way of thanking fans for keeping it on the XBL top slot, above GTA IV and Halo 3. Also, the new downloadable maps will now show up with the same frequency as normal maps, previously they had shown up twice as often. Good news for those of you that hate the sniper orgy of Creek.

Big Deal: Free iPod Touch or Nano with Mac for Students/Faculty

illiterate monk's picture

Apple just announced it's summer back-to-school special: buy any Mac (other than the Mini or 17" iMac) and get a free iPod Nano 8 gig or iPod Touch 8 gig. If you are a college student or college/K-12 school staff, you qualify. You can also get the 16 gig or 32 gig Touch and a $299 rebate. And don't forget, the educational discount on the Mac itself is pretty heafty. The offer runs from June 3 to September 15.

If you've been pondering a Mac, this is a spectacular deal. It may be time for that 24" iMac to take its rightful place on my desk.

If you do not qualify, find a PC-oriented college student and bribe them with a case of beer. If you're even pondering a Mac, this is the dealmaker.

Big Deal: Huge "Game Days" sale at Gamestop

thepeak's picture

EDIT: This was not a weekend sale as I had intially believed. The sale begins June 3rd. I'm not sure when it ends. Apologies.

The list may not be complete and a casual glance revealed many spelling mistakes. An extra 10% can be saved if you print the e-mail coupon. I put the interesting ones in bold. After the jump:
