I am thrilled:
I can now say with confidence: American-owned and produced beer is now quite good. All of the macro-brews are now foreign owned firms--Bud is Belgian (to be fair, InBev does also produce some fantastic beer), Coors is Canadian, and Miller is South African. Result? Here are the largest American-owned breweries (based on 2007 volume per 2008/04/07 Brewer's Association report (pdf)):
- Pabst
- Boston Beer (Samuel Adams)
- Yuengling
- Sierra Nevada
- New Belgium
Not bad. If you ignore Pabst (which, albeit awful, does at least have a decent American pedigree), that's a fantastic list. I can't wait to share a Samuel Adams with all the right-wing redneck jackasses that give me shit for not drinking Bud Light.
